Periodontal diseases are painless until their advanced stages. If left untreated, periodontal diseases can result in bad breath; red, swollen and bleeding gums; and, eventually, tooth loss. In fact, periodontal diseases are the leading cause of adult tooth loss.

What is a Periodontist? A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of periodontal diseases. Periodontists are familiar with the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating periodontal diseases and in the planning, placement and maintenance of dental implants. They can also perform cosmetic periodontal procedures to help you achieve the smile you desire.

What is Periodontal Disease? The word 'periodontal' literally means around the tooth. Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is a chronic bacterial infection that affects the gums and bone supporting the teeth. Often, this destructive process has very mild symptoms. If not treated properly, teeth can become loose and may have to be removed.
